The essentials to enjoy your electric bike in summer

l Choose your schedule carefully

In hot weather, the time at which you decide to go cycling is very important. To be able to enjoy your ride, it is better to favor staggered hours. Indeed, it is strongly advised not to expose yourself to the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in very hot weather because these are the hottest hours of the day. Leave before 8 a.m. or in the evening just after sunset if you want to enjoy your outing, but be careful to stay visible to other road users!

l Remember to hydrate yourself regularly

When practicing a sport in the heat, it is essential to stay hydrated! The heat outside and cycling make you sweat more than ever and the body loses water at an impressive rate. Above all, do not wait for the feeling of being thirsty to drink! Moreover, in addition to hydrating you, water will save you some aches the next day. So to enjoy your summer bike ride, keep in mind that water will be one of the main keys to success, if not even a question of survival!

l Choose a suitable outfit

You guessed it: dress light! In the absence of your usual outfit, choose clothes that let your skin breathe: you have to let the body sweat and regulate itself. Linen or light cotton clothes with a loose cut and a rather light color so as not to retain the heat are ideal for not getting too hot. Also, remember to wear sunscreen regularly and don’t forget to wear your helmet and sunglasses to avoid sunstroke.

Avoid recharging your battery when it is too hot.

In very hot weather, your battery is not only exposed to the outside temperature, but it also heats up when you use it. To avoid malfunctions during charging , it is preferable not to charge a battery immediately after use during a heat wave. When you come back from your outing, take the time to let it cool down to room temperature, leaving it out of direct sunlight, before plugging it in.

Whether for your daily journeys or for your weekend ride during a heat wave: avoid going headlong and at full power! It would be a shame to damage your e-bike battery by overestimating the assistance it could provide. This could lead to overheating and therefore impact the range and life of your battery.
